All our pathologists are certified in anatomic pathology by the American Board of Pathology. Many
of our pathologists also have board certifications in dermatopathology, hematopathology and immunopathology. For decades our pathologists
have served as trusted consultants to physicians, in both the outpatient and hospital settings.

David J. Bylund, M.D.
Dr. Bylund graduated from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York and from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
He did his internship and residency at Naval Regional Medical Center in San Diego, California followed by a fellowship in Immunopathology
at Scripps Clinic. Dr. Bylund has an additional board certification in Immunopathology. He joined SDP in 2006.
Douglas J. Ellison, M.D.
Dr. Ellison graduated from the University of Miami and University of Miami School of Medicine. He received
his anatomic and clinical pathology residency training at UCLA Medical Center followed by a fellowship in Hematopathology at USC-LAC
Medical Center. Dr. Ellison has an additional board certification in Hematopathology. He joined SDP in 2007.
Nancy L. Harrison, M.D.
Dr. Harrison graduated from the University of Oklahoma, college of Medicine in 1986, and completed residency
training in anatomic and clinical Pathology at UCSD in 1991. She worked at both Kaiser and UCSD Thornton Hospital in San Diego.
Dr. Harrison has worked for Palmer Laboratory Medical Group since 1996, which merged with SDP in 1998. Her primary focus is general
Joseph A. Hughes, M.D.
Dr. Hughes graduated from the University of Utah with a B.S. and received his medical degree from the University
of Utah. He completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of California San Diego as well as a
Surgical Pathology Fellowship. Dr. Hughes joined SDP in 2009.
Seong H. Ra, M.D.
Dr. Ra graduated with a B.A. from the University of Delaware and M.D. from Thomas Jefferson Medical College.
He completed his anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the University of California Los Angeles Medical Center in 2008, followed
by fellowships in gastrointestinal and liver pathology in 2009, and dermatopathology in 2010, also at UCLA Medical Center. He
has an additional board certification in dermatopathology. He joined SDP in 2010.
Carla J. Stayboldt, M.D.
Dr. Stayboldt graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in Bacteriology in 1978. She has a strong background
in clinical laboratory medicine, completing her internship in Medical Technology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles in
1979. She graduated from Oral Roberts University School of Medicine in 1983. She completed her anatomic and clinical pathology
residency at UCSD in 1987. She is boarded in anatomic and clinical pathology with an interest in blood banking and microbiology.
Dr. Stayboldt joined Palmer Laboratory Medical Group in 1987, which merged with SDPMG in 1998.
William J. Watts, M.D.
Dr. Watts graduated from Calvin College with a B.S. in Mathematics. He received his medical degree at
the University of Southern California. He completed his anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the University of California
Los Angeles Medical Center in 2005, followed by a fellowship in surgical pathology with an emphasis in gastrointestinal pathology
and a fellowship in dermatopathology also at UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Watts has an additional board certification in dermatopathology.
He joined SDP in 2007.
David R. Coon, M.D.
Dr. Coon graduated with a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield. Connecticut, and
then obtained a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Princeton University. Dr. Coon taught both undergraduate and advanced classes in chemistry
before going on to receive his medical degree from the John A. Burn`s School of Medicine in Hawaii. He completed his residency in
both anatomic and clinical pathology at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 2004. Dr. Coon then completed a fellowship in hematopathology
at the University of California Los Angeles Medical Center. Dr. Coon has worked in the field of pathology since 2005, most recently
as laboratory medical director of a busy teaching hospital in Nevada. Dr. Coon is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology
and hematopathology. He joined SDP in 2017.
Allan N. Kremp, M.D.
Dr. Kremp received his B.A. in Molecular cell biology from the University of California at Berkeley in 1999
and M.D. from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 2003. He completed an internal medicine internship and pathology
residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego. Dr. Kremp joined SDP in 2016 after serving 13 years in the Navy.
